Open Enrollment for Medicare to Start October 15

Sep 30, 2011 Issues: Health Care

Dear Friend,

One of my priorities as your representative is to ensure that you are kept informed on federal issues and how they will impact you.  Part of this is guaranteeing that seniors in our community are given the information that they need to make important decisions regarding their health care.

Each year, Medicare subscribers get an open enrollment period in which they can explore new choices in Medicare and pick the plans that work best for them. This is also a time for newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries to select a health plan and prescription drug plan.

October 15th to December 7th of this year marks the Medicare open enrollment period for 2012.

This is earlier than last year but will give seniors a full seven weeks to compare and make decisions before January 1, 2012 when new coverage starts.  Plans can change from year to year, so these are important choices that should be made with care. People can turn to www.medicare.gov, or call 1-800-MEDICARE for help.

I firmly believe that every American, and especially our senior citizens, should have access to quality medical care. Please feel free to contact me at my offices in Washington, DC or Garden Grove with your thoughts on Medicare or other federal programs.  I am proud to represent you in Congress.

Sincerely,

Loretta Sanchez
Member of Congress
