Creating Jobs and Strengthening Our Economy
Official unemployment numbers for September came out last Friday from the Department of Labor, showing that the economy added 103,000 jobs in September. This news is better than expected but with unemployment hovering around 11% in our district, we have a long way to go.
Job creation is the top priority of the American people and it is time for Congress to get off the sidelines and invest in the American worker and help manufacturers compete by investing in education and innovation.
I’m proud to support any investment which creates opportunities to help American businesses produce goods here at home. Democrats must push forward with our “Make it in America” agenda that will reinvest in American manufacturing, small businesses and most importantly our infrastructure. It will go a long way towards rebuilding our communities and putting people back to work.
The “Make it in America” agenda includes the Build America Bonds to Create Jobs Now Act of 2011, an infrastructure bond bill, for which I am one of the lead co-sponsors. Similar to how previous generations supported our nation's defense efforts through the sale of war bonds, Build America Bonds would help our power our nation’s economic recovery. The revenue generated from the sale of the bonds would help states and local governments pay for critical transportation and infrastructure projects, which would in turn create jobs.
It’s more important than ever that we pass legislation that creates jobs, supports small businesses, and rebuilds the American middle class, and I am committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to get this done. Please feel free to contact me at my offices in Washington, DC or Garden Grove with your thoughts on this or any other issue. I am proud to represent you in Congress.
