WASHINGTON, D.C. Representative Loretta Sanchez (CA-46) today released the following statement after Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that she would be stepping down as Secretary of Homeland Security in August and assuming the post as the next President of the University of California:

“Today I thank my friend, Secretary Janet Napolitano, for her incredible service and dedication leading the Department of Homeland Security.  As a senior member on the House Committee on Homeland Security, I have worked closely with her on many issues, including protecting civil liberties for travelers while maintaining the security of our borders.

“Her leadership has successfully guided the Department over the past four years and our country is safer and more secure because of it.

“I am proud Secretary Napolitano will be headed to my home state to serve as the first woman President of the University of California.”
